Michael Testa
Founder - Environmental Markets Expert and Economist
Nature Economy Jobs
I am an economist, entrepreneur and environmental markets specialist with experience spanning government, financial markets, economic analysis and technology.
My career has focused on understanding how policy, markets and investment interact, particularly across carbon pricing, energy transition and environmental markets. I am the Founder of Nature Economy Jobs, a specialist platform focused on talent and labour-market intelligence across biodiversity, natural capital, carbon markets, conservation, sustainability and climate finance. I am building the business to help organisations navigate an increasingly specialised environmental labour market while connecting professionals with opportunities across the nature economy. Previously, I was a Carbon Commodities Strategist within Global Investment Research at Goldman Sachs, analysing carbon markets and environmental commodities. Before that, I led carbon pricing strategy analysis at the UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), where my work supported the development and expansion of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme. I have also held senior analytical roles at S&P Global and the UK Ministry of Justice, with experience spanning economic modelling, market analysis, policy appraisal, regulatory analysis and strategic decision-making. Alongside my professional career, I founded GreenCheddar, an environmental technology venture that participated in UCL Hatchery and Startupbootcamp's Renewable Energy & Net Zero Accelerator. I hold a First Class BSc in Economics from Brunel University and an MSc in Economics from University College London (UCL), where I was awarded the Thomas Batt Witherden Scholarship. I am particularly interested in the intersection of economics, emerging technology, financial markets and environmental policy, and in how structural shifts in technology, regulation and investment are reshaping industries and labour markets.
